Honour Her Sacred Rites Of Passage For Girls See Her Years

Day Five · For You Alone

円

Gather your people

Ancient cultures did not raise daughters alone. They raised them in circles. Networks of women who had already crossed the threshold — who knew what was coming, who carried the memory of their own becoming, who could look at a girl standing at the edge of girlhood and say, with the full authority of their own experience: you are going to be more than alright. Here is what I know. Here is what I carry. Here is what was placed in my hands by the women before me.

Those circles were not lost by accident. They were deliberately dismantled — piece by piece, generation by generation — by a world that understood, even if it never said so clearly, that a girl who has been held at her threshold is a woman who cannot easily be managed. The dismantling of the circle was not random. It was strategic.

Every generation of women since has carried that absence without quite knowing its name. You felt it. And you looked at your daughter and you refused to pass it on.

That refusal is the new dawn. And it starts here, in this family, in this generation.

ITOSHII is the circle, rebuilt. But we want to talk today about the other circle — the one that already exists around your daughter, or the one you are going to intentionally and beautifully create.

Gather your people.

The mothers in your life who see what you see. Who look at their own daughters and feel the same quiet fierce love that brought you here. Tell them what you have done. Not to recruit them — simply to say: I found something. And in the meantime, will you be part of the circle around my daughter this year?

The women your daughter calls auntie — whether by blood or by love. The women who have watched her grow and who she trusts differently from the way she trusts you. These women matter enormously. At this age, she needs women in her life who are not her mother — women who will say true things to her, who will love her without the complicated beautiful charge that the mother-daughter relationship carries. Tell those women this year is happening. Ask them to show up for her in whatever way feels natural. They have been waiting for an invitation.

And the men. Do not underestimate this. She needs men in her life right now who will show her, through their own everyday behaviour, what respect looks like. What genuine interest in a girl's mind and voice and ideas looks like. Fathers, uncles, family friends — the men who already love her without condition. Let them know something extraordinary is happening this year. Let them be part of what holds her.

Because when she encounters the boys who diminish her — and she will, because that is the world she is growing up in — she needs a memory bank of men who did not. Men who listened when she spoke. Men who took her seriously. Men who showed her, in the most ordinary moments, that she has always been worth more.

Families come in all forms, and every one of them is welcome in this circle. Take what is yours from these letters. Pass on what feels right. There is no single shape this needs to take. There is only the intention — that your daughter moves through these thirty weeks held, seen, and surrounded by people who know what she is worth.

You are also part of a larger circle — parents walking this same path in every corner of Australia and beyond. You will not all meet. But you are connected in the only way that matters: you all looked at your daughters and said, not her. Not without ceremony. Not without someone standing beside her.

Tomorrow — the most important thing. The one that happens before she ever needs it.

With love — and the deepest tenderness for what you have chosen,

Honour Her

She Will Not Cross Alone.

Womanhood Is A Gift, And She Deserves To Meet It That Way

A girl who is held through her becoming carries that holding for the rest of her life. It travels, too — into a classroom, into a workplace, into a whole town, the moment somebody decides it should.

The Same Care, Built For Him

Our Sons Are Owed This Too

He arrived tender, and wildly alive in the whole landscape of feeling. Sacred Son meets him there and stays, so the parts of himself he was starting to put away are the parts he keeps.
